Prisoner X is a placeholder name used by reporters for some prisoners in Israel: The designation is used to identify Israeli inmates who "work in institutions linked to security whose activities are shrouded in secrecy." Ben Zygier was held in Ayalon Prison in Israel until his death there in 2010. Avri Elad (d 1993) was held in Ayalon Prison.
Prisoner X Reviews. It has a few too many twists for my taste, pushing its already overdetermined plot beyond all grounded credulity, but its point about the bunkered politics of fear is well made. Despite some nifty plot twists, the story feels loose, and lacks a sense of urgency.
Let's get this right out of the way: Prisoner X is very dark, and very political. The premise, that rebel freedom fighter Longshot has been captured by his archnemesis Mojo and imprisoned in an orbital prison where executions are televised as entertainment, exists to be a vehicle for critique of the death penalty.
Based on the novella “Truth” by Robert Reed, “Prisoner X” combines the Samuel L. Jackson thriller “Unthinkable” with the sci-fi setup of “Predestination” (review here). Powered predominately by tense character confrontations and conversations, most of the story is told rather than expressly shown.
